Departments & Subjects
Our primary aim is to challenge and develop the academic ability of each pupil. In small classes, staff can closely monitor academic progress and deliver an effective programme of work so that students are working confidently to their optimum capacity.
The Senior School curriculum builds upon the breadth of subjects introduced throughout the Junior School with Years Seven to Nine following the traditional disciplines of English, Mathematics, the three Sciences and Modern Foreign Languages alongside a well-structured development of both Humanities and the Arts.
Throughout the school we also offer a wide and all inclusive PHSE programme for our students.
Excellent GCSE performance underpins Scarborough College’s strong academic reputation which is based upon sound academic subjects rather than other, less rigorous qualifications.
Alongside the core subjects, every student takes at least one Foreign Language plus three other options from a range of subject choices that includes Geography, History, ICT, Business Studies, Art, Drama, Philosophy and Ethics, Music and P.E.

Our Learning Support department plays a pivotal role in sensitively addressing particular needs and challenges, with specialist teachers providing encouragement and assistance where needed.
We also have a well-qualified team of tutors for our international students who receive tuition in English as a Second Language. This programme is geared to individual needs and includes the provision of IELTS tuition where required for university entrance.
The quest for excellence extends to our facilities. The College boasts an up to date, well-stocked library along with a dedicated Librarian. This bright and attractive facility offers a comfortably furnished reading area and more formal work stations. The Library incorporates a Higher Education and Careers room together with a computer suite with full internet access and the College’s network is available to students across the campus.
In all subject areas, well equipped specialist rooms provide superb resources for pursuits such as musical composition and scientific experimentation.
The breadth of curriculum is maintained throughout the College including in the sixth form when all students study the IB (please see our IB page for further information).
