The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Scarborough College is thriving. We are breaking records yet again with the amount of Awards achieved by our pupils.
So far this year we have gained an incredible 86 Awards! 11 Gold, 34 Silver and 41 Bronze Awards have been achieved since September 2008. We have 110 pupils involved in D of E and it is increasingly popular at the school.
The expedition training programme has been running since November and expeditions start during the Easter holiday, running until the end of August.
There are 39 groups going out in total. The 6 Gold groups head out to the Lake District, the 17 Silver groups head to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, and the 16 Bronze groups take to the East Yorkshire Wolds and North York Moors.
Several participants help in the Junior School and we continue to support Vitalise, an organisation offering holidays for the disabled, where 3 of our Gold participants will do their residential in June. Our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) remains a big service provider.
Sue Nichol, Scarborough College’s Unit Leader is proud to be the leader of such a successful Unit and is delighted with the many Awards we have achieved this school year.
