Willersley House

willersley-house Willersley House is home, during term time, to up to 20 girls – currently in Years 10 to 12. The original house was built in 1887 and, whilst being totally modernised to provide comfortable boarding accommodation, still boasts many of its original features and has rooms of assorted shapes and sizes which give it a quirky feel.

Accommodation is in single and double senior bedrooms alongside two more traditional 3-bed dormitories for younger girls. Each girl has her own area within the shared rooms, with study facilities as well as bedroom furniture. Older girls share double rooms, whilst Lower Sixth formers have their own single study bedrooms whenever possible.

The house has a shared lounge and a separate Sixth Form Common Room, both with FreeSat television and DVD player. There is also a Games Room with table tennis, piano, house library and IT facilities. There is wi-fi provision, and girls can access their personal files on the school intranet and gain filtered access to the internet. Quiet areas can also be found within the house for reading and chatting.

The boarders, who are of various nationalities, are happy, friendly, companionable and supportive, and enjoy a balance of academic work, recreation, activities and outings. Prep is from 6.30 to 8.00pm Sunday to Thursday evenings, and girls are expected to study quietly in their rooms. Duty staff are on hand to maintain a positive work ethic, and are dedicated to the provision of inclusive Pastoral care for each boarder. With the exception of weekend breakfasts, all meals are taken together as a whole boarding community, in the main College Dining Hall. However, the house has its own well-equipped kitchen where the girls can prepare snacks, bake cakes, and even prepare celebration meals.

Activities available include visits to the local gym, swimming pool, cinema, ten-pin bowling alley, as well as outings further afield. The girls are also encouraged to consider others less fortunate than themselves, and make regular contributions to various charities.
