- About John
I attended Scarborough College from 1960 - 1965. I was in Lodge House which consisted at the time of two houses opposite the College in Filey Road. Norman Gee was the Housemaster and Denys Crews was the Headmaster. I represented the School at all levels of Cricket and in my last year reached the dizzy heights of House Prefect. Hindsight is often viewed through rose coloured glasses but it was a very enjoyable time of my life. It taught us respect, good behaviour and the ability to stand on our own two feet, something that has served me well throughout my life. I wasn't interested in academic qualifications, assuming I would work for my Father. What a shock to be told in 1965 I should go out and ruin someone else's business; not his! However the ethics and principles I learnt at the College meant I did just that. I started my working life at Leyland Motors followed by18 years with the Sun Alliance Group. I had always had a desire to run my own show and I started my own business in Marketing and Training and continue in that field today. I married Jean in 1971 and shall be ever grateful for Scarborough College.

- About Lucy
I attended Scarborough College from 1993 - 1999 joining ‘Cruise’ House with Mrs Russell as House Mistress. During my time at The College, the houses were renamed and I then became part of ‘Bankory’ House. I loved my time at The College and joined in with as many sports and activities as possible. Some highlights include, 1994 trip to Kenya to work on the Nanyuki Orphanage with the CCF, obtaining all three of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards as well as various Orchestra and Musical performances and supporting the Head of School as Deputy Head (Prefect). I represented College in 1st XI Hockey, and at all levels of tennis, netball and rounders. I made lifelong friendships and learnt to work and play hard after all, ‘you only get out of life what you put in!’ I spent the next 4 years studying for my honours degree in International Business and French and have since lived and travelled extensively abroad. Now back in the area, I keep busy as an International Account Manager in the Power Industry and also muck in with my Partner’s Ice Cream business. I look back on my time at Scarborough College with lots of great memories. It provided me with a fantastic rounded education; we were always encouraged to rise to the challenges set and wherever possible take the opportunities that were offered. I am extremely grateful for the experiences and friendships it gave me.

Years at College 1990 - 1996, Armstrong House, white PE vest with red band for those who have forgotten. (hopefully still compulsory). My whole time at College was pretty much taken up with sport and CCF. Lessons and pressures of coursework and exams tried to hinder me having a wonderful time. Played rugby, hockey and cricket all at first team level and captained the 1st XI hockey in 96. Probably one of the last teams to play on grass before astroturf was built. Was also a prefect in upper sixth. Joined the London Fire Brigade in 2001, stationed in East and Central London before transferring to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2009 now stationed here in sunny Scarborough. Now i am living and working in Scarborough seemed a perfect opportunity for me to join the OSA commitee as a local rep. I enjoyed my time at Scarborough College so very much this is a small way of contributing to keeping the OSA an active and integral part of the present and future Scarborough College life.
- About Suzanne
After a total of nine years at Lisvane and Scarborough College, I left in 1990 and went to Durham University for three years where I studied Natural Sciences. After leaving Durham, I spent a year working for Waitrose supermarkets. After that, I moved to work for John Lewis department stores in various buying offices for six years where I became an assistant buyer. From there, I moved to the IT department where I am now a senior analyst, mainly involved in working with systems that support the buying and merchandising departments in their work. Despite the fact that I have worked for the John Lewis Partnership since leaving university, I have had a varied career working in different divisions in different roles. I have recently moved house and now live near Hitchin, Hertfordshire. As I still have family in Scarborough, I do try to get back there at least once a year to see them and visit some old haunts. I also keep in touch with a number of people that I was at school with and hope that being involved with the OSA and the committee will help to renew some friendships and start some new ones.
- About John
I went to Lisvane from 1962-67 and was Captain of Cricket and a school Prefect. I then came up to Scarborough College in 1967 and was in Armstrong House. I played 1st XV Rugby, 1st XI Hockey and 1st XI Cricket for the College and also played cricket for North Yorkshire. My brother Mark also came to College and later went on to represent Great Britain playing Hockey and is an Olympic medallist and currently the Great Britain Masters Hockey Captain. Life after Scarborough College took me on to Trent Poly where I studied Law. At that time I continued to play Hockey and Cricket for Trent Poly and went on to win the Poly Cup at Edgbaston. I also represented the British Polytechnics in Derbyshire and Somerset and was fortunate to play Cricket at Lords on 3 occasions. I went on to work for St Peters Sports in 1979 and played Yorkshire Hockey and in the National Premier League with Welton Hockey Club. Before joining Scarborough College I went to do Teacher training at Hull University in 1980-81. In 1983 I became Head of Economics, following on from John Alderson. While at College I have been Housemaster of Armstrong, Boarding Housemaster from 1989-1996 and again in 2009-11, and have been on the OSA Committee since 1984.
