Curriculum

lesson-time-3 From their first days at Scarborough College Junior School, the girls and boys are presented with a huge range of opportunities. In the classroom, they acquire a broad spectrum of knowledge, skills and understanding through whole class teaching, group work and, where appropriate, individual tuition. From Year 3, greater subject specialisation is introduced, stimulating interest and curiosity as well as providing excellent preparation for their transfer to the College at age 11.

The breadth of opportunity on offer in the academic curriculum and the diverse programme of extracurricular activities do not detract from the solid grounding pupils receive in the core subjects, and the full complement of well-qualified teaching and support staff ensures a generous adult to pupil ratio. A Special Educational Needs Coordinator oversees the school’s learning support unit and this is managed in conjunction with Hull Dyslexia Action to further enhance learning provision in the Junior School. Hull Dyslexia Action has its own dedicated accommodation provided at the school, though independently staffed by the Institute.
