Chairperson

    John has been a general dental practitioner in Scarborough for 42 years. He had four sons attend Scarborough College, the youngest was a member of the first 6th Form group to tackle the IB. His links to the College as a parent spanned some 22 years. He was President of the Yorkshire Branch of the British Dental Association in 1983 and 2006. He has been the leader of his profession nationally and has worked in healthcare politics at all levels for over 30 years. For ten years John was an independent Governor of University College, Scarborough and is currently a Trustee of St. Catherine’s Hospice, Scarborough. His other interests are writing, reading crime fiction, crosswords, computers, snooker and golf, not necessarily in that order.

Deputy Chairperson

    Lindsey was appointed as Head of English at Scarborough College in 1979. During her 12 years at the College she enjoyed leading a successful department and remembers many highlights ranging from the annual Stratford trips to providing a medieval feast for her A level class based on food mentioned in Shakespeare’s Henry IV and putting on an outdoor version of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight at the summer fair. She subsequently took on the role of Head of Sixth Form and enjoyed helping students through the process of university applications. In 1991 Lindsey moved to the South East to take up the first of three headships, the first two in boarding schools  and the last post as Headmistress of Central Newcastle High School  with the challenge of being responsible for nearly 1000 girls in a city environment! During her career she has worked in grammar, comprehensive and independent schools, in day and boarding and in single sex and co-educational schools, in the Midlands, South East and North East and says that she has loved the variety of educational experience.  Lindsey trained as a schools’ inspector and continued to inspect schools for two years after retiring from Newcastle. On retirement she moved back to Scarborough to rejoin many of the friends made during her years at the College. She was delighted to be invited to join the governing body in 2006 and then to serve as Deputy Chair , Chair of the Education Committee and a member of the Finance and Management Committee. Lindsey lists her interests as “everything medieval” dating back to her B.Phil  degree in Medieval Studies from York University; she  enjoys singing with local choirs; she is a Friend of the Stephen Joseph Theatre and of Scarborough Symphony Orchestra and a member of the National Churches’ Trust; above all she relishes her retirement shared with her husband and Birman cats!

Governors

    Tony is a Chartered Insurance Broker and is chairman of A.S. Green & Co (Insurance Brokers) Ltd., based in Scarborough. His son attended Scarborough College, successfully completed the sixth form IB programme and went on to study at Lincoln University in 2010. Tony was appointed a governor in March 2007 and currently serves as chairman of the Governors’ Finance and Management Committee. Tony was appointed a magistrate in 1990 and has held a number of judicial positions locally and regionally, most recently as chairman of the Scarborough bench from 2009 to 2011.
    Zoe is an Old Girl of the College having been a boarding pupil from 1978-1988.  She then moved into the Banking sector and subsequently became a Financial Advisor covering different areas of Yorkshire.  Zoe now runs her own Garden Design business based in Sledmere, where she lives with her husband Patrick who farms with the family business on the Yorkshire Wolds. She has been involved with the Old Scardeburgians' Association for 23 years and is the current OSA President.  Zoe is also a current Scarborough College parent (son Henry is in year 10) so she is regularly in touch with the School on a day to day basis and is on the committee of the Friends of Scarborough College.  Zoe has, in the past, helped out with sports coaching at the College and is currently the nominated Governor on the Marketing Committee. Other areas of interest include various sports and she is still playing regularly in local hockey, netball and tennis teams and occasionally golf at local Driffield and Scarborough clubs.
    Richard has been a solicitor for 25 years and is Managing Director of Leeds and Sheffield commercial lawyers Lupton Fawcett LLP. Richard is a Fellow of the Association of Business Recovery professionals, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Chartered Marketer. Richard is also a Trustee and Director of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and a patron of the Cill Rialaig Arts Foundation in Kerry in the Republic of Ireland. Richard's other interests include shooting, cooking and annoying his guitar teacher. Richard benefits as a Governor from being an old boy of the College (1973 to 1978) having followed his father who is also an old boy.  Richard's son James represents the third generation to attend the College so giving insights as a parent.
    Ian has worked as a Consultant Radiologist in Scarborough for 20 years, half of that time as a Clinical Lead. He trained at Guy's Hosptal and the Leeds Teaching Hosptals and now plays an active role in the national recruitment and training of the next generation of Clinical Radiologists as well as being an examiner at Hull/York Medical School. He has 4 sons, all of whom have been through Lisvane and now has 3 left at the College with 1 having gone on to university after the IB. Ian is the school Governor with responsibility for Child Protection. Outside work Ian's most prized possessions are his road bike and walking boots as he is happiest on a long bike ride or up a Scottish mountain, preferably not in the rain.
    Carolyn is a Consultant in Higher Education, focusing on the learning development of postgraduates and academic staff. She has a Doctorate in Educational Policy as well as an MBA in Human Resource Management. Until recently Carolyn lectured on an MSc in Educational Leadership, also designing development workshops for academic staff on issues ranging from teamworking for High Performance, to Conflict Management and Resolution. Scarborough College has been an important part of Carolyn’s personal life as both her sons attended the school from pre-prep through to the sixth form. Carolyn is also a Member of the Board of St Catherine’s Hospice, sitting on the Clinical Governance Committee, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. Her personal interests include travel, gardening and dog-walking.
    John spent fourteen years at the College initially as Head of Geography, before becoming Boarding Housemaster (Lodge House); he was subsequently appointed Deputy Head, leaving in 1993 to take up a Headship in the Independent sector. In his seventeen years as a Head he has developed a high level of experience in all matters that a Head has to deal with. John trained as an Inspector of Independent Schools, has a wide range of experience in the examination system and continues to mark at A level. Since returning to Scarborough he has become involved with the OSA and as a Governor sits on the Education and Finance & Management sub committees. In his free time he continues to cycle, indoor row, pursue his passion for Russia  (literature, language, history, geography etc), and enjoys spending time with his baby grandson.
