Junior School

Scarborough College has appointed Mr Dan Davey as the new Head of its Junior School.

Mr Davey succeeds Graham Twist, who left this post in April, to become Deputy Head and Head of the Junior School at Teeside High School. Dan is the current Headteacher at Branwood Preparatory School in Eccles, Manchester and he will take up his new post in September 2010.

Mr Davey said: “I am delighted to have been chosen by the governors to be the next Head of Scarborough College Junior School and I look forward to getting to know the school, its pupils and parents and meeting the new challenges that lie ahead. During the summer term I plan to start this process, so that I am familiar with school by the start of the academic year in September.”

From his previous record, it is clear that Dan not only has high academic expectations for his new pupils, but he also acknowledges the importance of a school offering a breadth of educational opportunities.

Having worked successfully at senior management level in the commercial world Dan, whose father was Head of Art at Sedbergh School (Dan’s old School) decided that he wanted to develop a career in teaching.

After training at Westminster College, Oxford Mr Davey’s first teaching job was at Lathallen School in Scotland, where he quickly rose to be Deputy Head. To further his experience Dan moved to Malsis, a preparatory school in West Yorkshire, where he was Senior Housemaster and Head of Science.

Mr Davey’s wife Nichola is a modern languages teacher and their two sons, Joshua and Joel, will also be joining Scarborough College Junior School in September.

As part of the selection process Dan was interviewed by Scarborough College’s new Headteacher, Mrs Isobel Nixon, who is also taking up her post in September.

Speaking about Mr Davey’s appointment, Dr John Renshaw, chair of governors, said: “Mr Davey was an outstanding candidate in a strong field. We are delighted that the new Head of the College and the new Head of the Junior School are both experienced Head Teachers already.”
