The Governors of Scarborough College and I are delighted to announce that, with effect from September 2012, the College and Bramcote School will merge to form a new, combined school.
Both schools have been in Scarborough for well over a hundred years and the merging of the schools will represent the biggest change in independent education in the town in all that time.
The reasons for this decision are varied. Certainly the current economic climate is not helping, but it is also true that there have been significant changes in the prep school market over the last decade which have affected pupil numbers at Bramcote.
Scarborough College has developed a realistic business plan for the future, designed to establish the new school as a centre of academic excellence with good facilities and a comprehensive extra curricular programme. In September, teaching will transfer from Bramcote to the College site to take advantage of our delightful Junior School building. Bramcote’s extensive sports facilities, in turn, will provide a welcome addition to the grounds to include sports field, sports hall and swimming pool.
In order to ensure that the fine histories of both schools are maintained, the College Junior School will be re-named Bramcote Junior School. The reputation of Bramcote is well known and we wish to preserve and build upon it.
Our aim is to ensure a smooth transition for all the pupils, parents and staff involved in this exciting opportunity which faces both schools in the coming months.
Yours sincerely
Isobel E Nixon (Mrs)
Head of Scarborough College
