The Shoe Box Appeal

shoe-boxes-2011 As part of the PSHE programme the year 7 and 8 pupils have been looking at helping others and charity work. Here we have some of them pictured with their shoe boxes for the annual Shoe Box appeal which Scarborough College has supported for a number of years now.

Each of the shoeboxes are wrapped in Christmas paper and filled with a variety of items including: crayons, books, soaps, flannels, toys, sweets, hats, scarves and gloves.

Mrs Dyson, who is the District Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child said: “We use anything that a child would be pleased to receive at Christmas when they have nothing.”

Last year volunteers collected a total of 6,200 boxes which were sent to Eastern European countries including Georgia, Romania and Belarus.

Mrs Dyson said “So far this year we have collected 6017 shoeboxes from this area and they are now on their way to needy children in Kiev.”

Well done Years 7 and 8 and good luck to Mrs Dyson with the campaign.
