Money raised to buy warm clothes for charity

rainbow-center-dec-2011 Scarborough College students have raised £360 to buy warm clothes for homeless people living in Scarborough. Children brought money into
College on 9th December as part of a donation day.

The clothes will be distributed by local charity, The Rainbow Centre  and Peter Walser, Vice Chair of Trustees, visited Scarborough College to see what had been purchased and gift wrapped. Mrs Ruth Macdonald who helped co-ordinate the fundraising, purchased the clothes from a number of local shops. She said; “I had to be careful where I bought the clothing from to make sure the money went as far as possible and the clothes would be nice and warm. We managed to buy 7 coats, 22 hat and glove sets, 20 scarves, 50 pairs of thick socks and 23 pairs of jeans. The clothing will hopefully help people to stay warm over Christmas and 2012.

Mr Philip Wilson who also co-ordinated the fund raising explained that money is still coming in and some of the boys who play rugby at the College will be raising further funds at a Sportsman’s Dinner this week.
