On the 10th of December 2011 at 5.30am (!) the Scarborough College Boarders set off for a trip to London, which was rather tiring, but absolutely worth it.
We arrived in London after a 6 hour coach journey and had some time for shopping around Covent Garden, one of the busiest places in London. If you have never been to London before, the pure amount of people combined with hundreds of impressions, smells and images is a bit frightening, but definitely one of the best things about the city.
At 3.00pm, later that day, we checked into our youth hostel, which was not a 5 star hotel, but fulfilled the basics, but we did not stay there long as we went for a meal in an Italian Restaurant in the heart of London, near Oxford Street. Strengthened by Pizza and Pasta, we could continue on to see either “Blood Brothers” or “The Lion King”; both prize winning musicals. I went to see “The Lion King” and it was stunning and one of the best performances I have ever seen.
After this we all were rather tired and looking forward to our beds back in the hostel. The next morning we went on a sightseeing tour with a tour guide, which was highly informative and interesting, as we got some ‘insider information’ about all the famous sights. We completed our tour at Oxford Street, one of the ‘Shopping Eldorados’ in London. After about three hours of raiding all the shops we met again to drive back to Scarborough.
We arrived back at the boarding houses at about 9.00pm and although we couldn’t have kept our eyes open for any longer, we gained some memories which we will fondly remember. The trip was well worth it and I hope that I can speak for all the boarders when I say that the staff accompanying us were great and our time in London was great too! Thanks a lot for this time and I hope that we will repeat a trip like this again soon.
