The Owls and Evening League Netball

The Owls team is made up of current Scarborough College students who wish to play more netball, especially in the winter term when the girls concentrate on hockey as their main sport.  Recent leavers of the College and Staff are also invited to play in The Owls team. The Scarborough Evening Netball League runs from September through to April, including the holidays, which can sometimes make getting a team out quite tricky.

Charlotte Osthelder, the Owls Captain gives us this report of the season so far.

“We had a good start into the season and won the first two matches against SNC Sharks 12-11 and SNC Piranhas 16-2. The third match we lost against Vaseys Glazing 15-16, but it was really close and we had a good match. After this we lost another match against Nippy Seniors. It was another match which helped us realise what our mistakes were. Before we broke up for half term we won the match against Rumours 16-11 but unfortunately we were not able to play the match in the holidays against Nippy Seniors, as we didn’t have enough players. The match against Wydale Warriors started great and we had the ball under our control but in the end we lost concentration about our feet and played too fast, so we lost 11-20.

All in all it was not an easy start for us, as we had never played with each other in this combination before, but I think we made the most out of it.”

The Owls team squad to date includes the following

Hannah Shepherd, Sophie Miller, Jackie Cartwright, Alice Kirkup, Georgina Horsham-Batley, Claudia Proctor, Camilla Braithwaite, Maria Sheikh, Kate Dibb, Ellie Hamp, Jessie Houghton, Frankie Houghton, Rebecca Griffiths, Lucinda Braithwaite and Charlotte Osthelder.
The Wydale Warriors also has many links with Scarborough College and is made up of predominantly Old Girls.  The Owls v The Warriors is always an enjoyable match to play in and watch.  OS’s playing for the Warriors include, Sam Mudd(Ridley), Alison Colling(Fordy), Mieke Mosey(Craig-Tyler), Zoe Fusco(Craig-Tyler), Judith Simpson, Caroline Wyatt, Mieke Davison(Sullivan), Zoe Harrison(Hibberd), Helen Holdsworth (wife of Carl), with occassional guest appearances from Lucy Clayton, Helen Noble, Wendy Craig-Tyler and Barbara Brocklehurst.
