As well as the normal school fixtures this weekend saw the College 1st XI turn out on sunday afternoon to play against the OSA XI as part of the Gala Prize Giving and OSA Reunion Weekend. The girls put on a very impressive performance against what was an impossing team that the OSA had put out. With the fog clearing just in time for the match, and the sun shining brightly the girls and ladies gave a dazzling performance of passing, stick skills and set pieces. With much end to end action the College took the lead with Claudia Proctor stricking hard to put the ball firmly in the back of the goal. The OS’s steadied and found some form and soon the score was 1-1 after a tidy goal from OS Zoe Harrison. The Old Girls were then on the attack and not long after with some great team work, Zoe finished off putting in number two after being 1 on 1 with the keeper. Half time saw the OS’s in need of some ‘refreshments’ while the College team had their coaches, Mr Precious and Mr Brough, give them some serious words about how to pull back the 2-1 score line. With youth on their side and plenty of skill and determination the College were soon in the driving seat leading 4-2. The OS’s battled hard and after a very slick short corner routine, Camilla Braithwaite had the keeper beat to bring it back to 4-3. Continual end to end action and incidents but the final whistle came just in time to give the College 1st team a good victory for the history book. Congratualtions to all the Ladies who played against a very determined College side and thanks to the Umpires and coaches, plus all the supporters.
The OSA and College Rugby XV played the Scarborough Rugby Club Gulls XV (over 35′s) for the first time, and hopefully this will now become a regular fixture in the College and OSA sports calendar. With plenty of experience and extra youth on the OSA side this was set to be a well balanced game. The crowd of supporters were entertained in both the quality of the rugby and the banter and spirit in the way the match was played. Clayton Hill lead the OSA team to a resounding victory of 39-7 and scored some impressive points for the OSA team with a good kicking boot.
All the players and spectators, who supported and played in both the rugby and hockey matches retired for tea in the College Dining Hall after the match and much thanks to the College Catering team for providing a fantastic spread for the day. Once the ‘Oldies’ have recovered I am sure they will all be looking forward to next years matches plus the Mens and Mixed hockey and Netball at the March Reunion, and the Cricket, Rounders and Tennis in the Summer term.
