History and Drama Saturday Special

Drama Saturday Special 11 The Second World War was re-created today in the Drama Studio at Scarborough College where a startlingly realistic home front gave children aged 8 to 12 a taste of Anderson shelters and air raids.

The College’s Head of History, Richard Scott and Head of Drama, Dan Maloney ably taking on the role of Air Raid Warden, established an authentic glimpse of life during the war.  This period forms part of the History curriculum for children in Years 5 and 6 and so, although they were having a great time, the children were learning a lot about the period.  In addition to hearing Chamberlain’s declaration of war, they experienced evacuation and the terror of a bombing raid.

Sixth form and Year 11 Drama students took different roles and helped to create the atmosphere.
