At the start of the new academic year and at the beginning of another Hockey season, it’s great to see OS Mark Precious still showing off his hockey skills and captaining the England O50 Masters’ squad to victory in recent months.
In July the Masters played the Home Countries Tournament in Swansea and Mark and the O50 squad cleaned the board by beating Ireland 7-0, Wales 9-0, Scotland 3-0.
Mark says ‘these were unprecedented results of 3 wins. 19 goals scored & 0 conceded. England has retained the trophy for the 4th consecutive year! The team played exceptionally well throughout & everyone contributed hugely. We reached a new higher playing standard with 9 new players which say a lot for their ability & the existing squad in amalgamating together.’
John Thorne, England 050’s Manager said ‘I would also like to pay a special tribute to Mark Precious for all his support over the past 6 years, both as captain & as an inspirational player. You are always welcome with the 050s!!
This week, 20-28th August 2011, has seen the Masters’ teams playing for the Euro Cup in Krefeld, Germany
With O40, O45, O50, O55 and U21 squads all playing in Krefeld, it was great to see some fantastic hockey at the start of the domestic season. The O50’s played Poland, Italy, Germany, Scotland and Wales in their tournament beating Germany 4-1 in the final and retaining the title ‘European Champions’.
The final results for all 4 Masters’ Teams were
O40 England 0 Germany 2, O45 England 5 Scotland 1, O50 England 4 Germany 1, O55 England 4 Germany 0
The U21’s also played two matches against Germany, losing 2-1 in the first game then drawing 2-2 in the second. Congratulations go to another, but considerably younger OS, Will Byas who is playing regularly for the England U21 squad while now studying at Birmingham University.
Congratulations to both OS’s and especially good luck to Will for 2012! As for Mark, he has had an outstanding hockey career since his days at Scarborough College, Olympic Games and now captaining the O50′s to so many convincing victories…….next stop 2011 Masters’ World Cup in Singapore October 28th – November 5th 2011.
Good luck to all our OS’s and Scarborough College at the start of another Hockey Season!
