Scarborough College is taking great satisfaction in new research which shows that International Baccalaureate students out perform A Level students at UK universities.
The study, based on statistics from UK universities and higher education institutions, has revealed that students undertaking the International Baccalaureate at post-16 are at a distinct advantage when it comes to university entrance and performance.
According to the research, a higher percentage of IB students achieve a first class honours award compared to students holding A Levels or their equivalent. IB Diploma entrants are also twice as likely to be enrolled at one of the UK’s top 20 Higher Education Institutions. In particular, IB students are almost twice as likely to study Medicine and Dentistry as A Level students.
The study was conducted by the Higher Education Statistics Agency and it also confirms that there are significant long term benefits for students. IB students are almost twice as likely as their A Level peers to pursue further study and their employment prospects are better too; they are more likely to be employed in graduate level and higher paid jobs and a greater proportion of IB than A Level leavers are employed within professional, scientific and technical activities.
